Skirrow Insurance Services require your consent to gather and retain data about you before we will be able to provide you with insurance quotations or advice. Some of this data will be personal and could be used to identify you, such as your address. For some types of insurance it may extend to sensitive information concerning health, your credit history or criminal convictions. We only ask for sensitive information where it is needed in order to facilitate your request for services. Data will be used to communicate with you on matters concerning your insurance and we may contact you about additional products aligned to those that you hold with us, or that we think may be of interest to you.
We do not request explicit consent to process your information, because without it we are unable to provide you with insurance services. If you are requesting the inclusion of insurance cover for other people be aware that we must assume that you have first obtained their consent before doing so.
We will collect the majority of the data that we need from you but we, and the insurance organisations that we deal with, may collect data from publicly available sources. Third parties can include databases aligned with the insurance industry, firms, loss adjustors and suppliers appointed during the process of handling claims. This information may be used for data verification, legal and regulatory purposes.
We may be required to use your data in relation to preventing and detecting fraud or financial crime. In certain circumstance we may be legally bound to pass on information. We may share information with third parties acting on your behalf, but only where you have given us your express permission to do so.
Any organisations that we share data with are required to handle your information to an equal standard. We do not store data outside the UK, however some of the organisations that we deal with do. Where data is stored outside of the European Economic Area data protection laws in the host nation will be equivalent to those applying in the UK. Our use of third party software for quotation purposes means that some information processed by them will be stored on the Cloud. We are confident that third parties have appropriate safeguards in place, as far as is reasonably possible, to ensure security of that data.
We take the security of your personal data seriously and include safeguards within our systems in order to protect it. Information is only retained for as long as is reasonably necessary in respect of administering your policy cover, or where doing so can be justified with reference to regulatory requirements or legal purposes. You have specific rights concerning your data and these can be checked with the Information Commissioners Office. Their website is www.ico.org.uk and any complaints that you have about our use of your data should be referred to them.
You may ask us for a copy of your personal data and can ask us to correct details where necessary. You can ask for a review of the accuracy of any information being used where automated decisions have generated a result that you are unhappy with. You may also ask us to delete your data and can restrict or object our use of your private information at any time. Where permission is withdrawn this will become effective from the point at which we receive your instructions. Any information provided prior to receipt of those instructions may remain on our records where it’s retention is justifiable, for example to comply with legal or regulatory requirements. We will inform you where such conditions apply.
